Assign weights for final grades

These instructions describe how to edit the Weighted Total column to calculate the students' final grades if you are weighting your assignments. If you are going to assign the average of a category of assignments (e.g., quizzes, homework) a percent of the total grade, you should first create the categories and assign the categories for each assignment.

1. In your course, go to the Course Management section and select Control Panel, Grade Center, and the Full Grade Center.

2. Click the down arrow to the right of the column name "Weighted Total" and select "Edit Column Information."

3. Scroll down to the Select Columns section.

4. Assign individual assignments a percent of the total grade.

4.1. Click the name of the assignment and then click the small right arrow near the right "Selected Columns" box.  

4.2. The assignment you just selected will be moved from the left hand "Columns to Select" box to the right hand "Selected Columns" box.  

5. Assign a category of assignments a percent of the total grade.

5.1. In the "Categories to Select" box, click the name of the category in the left hand box.

5.2. The category name will appear in the right hand "Selected Columns" box.

6. When you've selected all the appropriate assignment names and categories, enter the weight for each item. Notice that they all need to add to 100% for the Total Weight.

7. Click Submit.
